My sister sent me a message one day wanting me to translate a description from a fortune slip, so I thought it would be interesting to find out about it.

The fortune slip, called O-mikuji in Japan, was about the Chinese zodiac, also known as Eto in Japan.

There are 12 animals of Eto that cycle through and repeated every 12 years.

I was born under the Year of the Snake, but 2018 is the Year of the Dog!

 

 

先日、妹の友達が日本を訪れたときに引いた干支のおみくじを英訳してほしいと頼まれました。

海外でも干支は知られているのか・・・と思って調べたところ、

最近じわじわと浸透してきているみたいです！

ただ、英語ではChinese Zodiacとして認識されているよう。

コラム記事や、戌年にちなんだ動物シェルターのウェブサイトなどに

“This year is the Year of the Dog”と書かれていました♪

海外では血液型占いよりも星座占いのほうが人気なので、生まれた日や年で決まる干支も取り入れやすかったのかな＾＾

もし外国の人とChinese Zodiacの話になったら、”I was born in the Year of the ___”と言ってみましょう！
